Today I did my usual habit of opening Petfinder and looking at all of the available dogs for adoption.
I’ve been wanting to get my own dog for at least a year now, but to be honest I’ve been too scared to pull the trigger. I am afraid to adopt a dog because you never know what kind of medical or behavioral troubles are getting yourself into. Besides that, I can’t even look at the dogs that are available for adoption without crying for hours. I want to help them all and it tears at my heartstrings to see their sad pictures. This morning was no different. I saw a sweet looking puppy and opened his profile to find the most interesting description I’ve ever read. For some reason, it was recommended that this dog lives in a home without central heating and cooling. I contacted the foster parents and asked what was wrong with indoor air quality control management for this dog. They promptly responded with a long spiel about air conditioners and furnaces terrorizing the poor puppy. Apparently, when this dog was found he was in an abandoned home where they hadn’t bothered to turn off the central heating and cooling system. For over two weeks he was locked indoors as the central cooling system blasted ice cold air into the house. The poor puppy had nowhere to go to escape the ice cold indoor air. He was found cowering in the attic, as far away from the central AC unit as he could get. To this day, the poor pooch is not a fan of air conditioning, so it’s absolute torture for him to be surrounded with central heating and cooling systems. I guess I could tear out my central HVAC…
