Ignorance is bliss – “don’t know” about HVAC servicing

I know it’s not my place, but sometimes I’m truly disappointed by how irresponsible my friends and peers can be.

I feel like I learned how to be an adult early on, because there was no other choice.

In my family, you got your shit together and took care of it every day, or you had nothing. No one was lording over us or making sure that we were making the right choices. As an adult, I am an extremely responsible human being. I can’t stand working or living efficiently. I am not very forgiving when I make mistakes and I expect myself to the informed in all areas of adult living. That’s why I have a hard time understanding how my friend could be so irresponsible with her indoor air temperature control equipment. Recently, I was speaking to a good friend of mine when she mentioned that she was waiting for the HVAC technician to arrive. She said it had been a horrible morning, because she woke up and there was no heat in the house. She was completely shocked by the furnace failure. She had never encountered a heating system break down before in her life. She said she had never called out an HVAC dealer before, and she really didn’t understand how it was even possible to lose heat. When I asked about her furnace routine service and warranty program, she had nothing to say. She had never used a professional HVAC technician before, nor was she aware of routine service appointments. She simply turned the thermostat dial everyday and waited for her air temperature to change. Now, she was facing a full furnace replacement. The truly infuriating part was, she genuinely didn’t think any of this was her fault.
